Covid-19 update.

TWO new positive tests for Covid-19 have been recorded across the NHS Highland area in the past day, the latest update from the Scottish Government has revealed.

The region’s cumulative number of known cases rose from 5027 to 5029 when Friday’s update was published at 2pm.

There were 285 new cases of Covid-19 across Scotland in the past 24 hours. This was equivalent to 1.6 per cent of all cases tested during that period.

Some 168 people were receiving treatment for the coronavirus in Scottish hospitals last night – a fall of six from Thursday.

And the number of those in intensive care was down one, to 20.

Sadly, six further deaths have been reported among people who tested positive for the virus in the past 28 days.

Once again there were no new cases of the virus in either NHS Shetland, NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar.

Thirty-four positive tests were detected across NHS Grampian – taking its running tally to 14,590.

And NHS Tayside recorded a dozen new positive tests, for an overall total of 14,408.

There have now been 221,431 confirmed cases of the virus across Scotland since the beginning of the pandemic.

More than 2.625 million people have now had their first vaccine injection, while almost 525,000 have had their second jag.
