A SERIOUS A9 smash in the Highlands which left two people in hospital has sparked a public appeal from the police.

The collision involving a white Jaguar F-Pace and a navy-blue VW Jetta happened on the A9 near Skiach at around 1pm today.

It happened on the A9 at Skiach at its junction with the B9176, near Alness.

Emergency services attended and the 81-year-old male driver and 83-year-old female passenger of the VW Jetta were taken to Raigmore Hospital.

Medical staff describe the condition of the 83-year-old woman as “serious but stable”, according to police. The male driver and female passenger of the Jaguar car were uninjured.

The A9 was closed in both directions to allow for collision investigation to take place.

Sergeant Calum MacAulay said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the collision and I am appealing to anyone who was on the road at the time of the incident to contact us.

“If you have dash cam, please check the footage as it could hold images which could assist our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 1571 of 3 June, 2024.
