TWO new coronavirus infections were recorded across NHS Highland in the past day.

The region’s cumulative number of cases increased from 4959 to 4961 when the latest daily figures were released on Monday.

Seven people were being treated for Covid-19 in NHS Highland hospitals last night – down one from Sunday’s update, and the lowest number since the start of 2021.

There were 352 fresh positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland in the past 24 hours – or 3.2 per cent of all those tested during that period.

Some 259 people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scotland’s hospitals last night – down five from Sunday.

Of those, 22 were in intensive care, which was unchanged from the previous update.

And no new deaths were registered among those who tested positive in the previous 28 days.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new cases in NHS Shetland, NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar in the past 24 hours.

NHS Grampian recorded 29 fresh cases in the past day – for a running total of 14,313.

And another 21 positive tests were registered in NHS Tayside, taking its cumulative tally to 14,154.

There have now been 217,479 confirmed cases of the coronavirus since the pandemic began.

Some 2.4 million Scots have now received their first dose of the Covid vaccine, and more than 326,000 have had their second jag.
