A TEENAGER who has close connections to Durness has been awarded a One to Watch trophy at the Into Film awards held in London.

Emilija Morrison (18), from Dunfermline, was one of three national trophy winners.

She wrote a short film script which was commended by Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh, and interviewed young Disney stars Mackenzie Foy and Misty Copeland while taking part in Into Film’s Young Reporter scheme.

Emilija started writing stories while still at primary school, and making short films using her grandfather’s digital camera.

She is currently taking a gap year and plans to start university in the autumn.

A competent athlete, Emilija won the senior women’s 100 yards and 220 yards races at Durness Highland Games in 2017, aged 16. Her grandfather, retired journalist Willie Morrison, who lives in Inverness, was born and brought up in Durness. He traces his paternal ancestry back eight generations, and still retains a base there.
