It was a day that left them footsore and weary but thrilled at their achievement.

Brora Primary School P7 pupils Libby Roseveare, Maisie Macleod and Jasmyn Campbell, all aged 11, completed a 22-mile sponsored walk in 11 hours on Saturday.

It was three hours longer than they had anticipated, but in the process they raised nearly £6000 to go towards upgrading the school's dilapidated play park.

The three, who are moving on to secondary in the August term, wanted to raise the money as a thank-you for the years they have spent at primary.

The girls set off from the Co-op at Brora at 7am and walked through Strath Brora, via Sciberscross and then down to Golspie by the Dunrobin Glen Road.

Libby's mum Anna Renouf said: "They were cheered over the finish line at the swimming pool at Golspie by a group of supporters with banners and balloons."

Donations can still be made here.
