Mainland Britain’s most northerly cinema in Thurso is preparing to welcome filmgoers with a range of special offers between now and October.
Merlin Cinema recently transferred ownership of its business to its staff by becoming an Employee Ownership Trust — and is now opening its doors for fans of the silver screen to enjoy the latest blockbusters for just £6 or less.
For a limited time, standard tickets for showings at the Thurso cinema will be available for just £6, with Movie Magic Card holders enjoying an even lower price of £5.
Young film buffs can also enjoy further discounts. On Mondays, cardholding children will have the opportunity to watch the latest films for as little as £3.25.
The promotional period promises to feature a variety of highly anticipated new film releases, including The Outrun, Alien: Romulus, It Ends With Us, The Wild Robot, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Joker: Folie A Deux.
Continuing blockbusters such as Despicable Me 4 and Deadpool & Wolverine are also on the list of films to be enjoyed.
The cinema’s Mini Movie Deal is also set to continue, offering selected family films for £3.99, which includes popcorn and a drink, providing one of the best value cinema-going experiences in the country.
In addition to the regular programme, there will be special revival screenings of classic films with the Big Movie Deal seasons.
Event cinema productions, such as opera, ballet, theatre and music concerts are also planned over the period.
The Movie Magic Discount Card is available for just £7.50. This card provides a free ticket upon purchase and offers substantial discounts for a full year, including 10 per cent off all food and drink.
Merlin, which operates a diverse range of cinemas and restaurants across the country, reopened the cinema in Thurso in 2015 after it had faced several setbacks and eventually closed.
This was the company’s first cinema outside of England, managed from their offices in Cornwall.
Since then, Merlin Thurso has grown from a modest two-screen venue to a five-screen cinema, providing locals with a wider choice of films and showtimes.
The Westcountry-based independent operator has also seen success in other locations, such as Ayr. In April of this year, the company revitalised a recently closed Art Deco Odeon cinema, bringing the magic of cinema back to the local community.
