An unusually coloured lamb born at Melvich last week has been described by his owner as like a sheep in cow's clothing.

Juanella Findlay, who works Kirkton Farm with her husband Willie and son Michael, said the black and white lamb came from a "pure Cheviot" ewe that does not share the same markings.

The yet unnamed lamb also has a sibling twin that looks like a traditional Cheviot. Juanella said the little lamb looked "like a belted Galloway cow but in sheep form".

"We have farmed here at Kirkton for 26 years and have 25 breeding cattle along with 750 ewes. We've never had a pure Cheviot lamb with these kind of markings before."

The lamb looks very different from his mother and sibling.

She added: "It’s a male lamb and we have someone wanting to buy him as they breed unusually coloured Cheviots".

The family-run farm has also diversified to do farm buggy tours, giving the general public an insight to farming life in the north of Scotland.
