A SOCIAL housing tenant has criticised his landlord for allowing a new neighbour to move in during lockdown.

Michael Milne (61), Stafford Court, Dornoch, said he was currently shielding in his Cairn Housing Association flat after suffering a heart attack.

He was aghast to notice earlier this week that a vacant Cairn Housing property next to his block had become occupied.

Mr Milne has complained to his landlord and also contacted local MSP Gail Ross

He said that no one should have been allowed to move in when Dornoch was still in lockdown because of the risk of spreading coronavirus.

A Cairn Housing representative said: “The Scottish Government has recently confirmed that housing associations are now able to carry out work to empty homes and start to let homes again.

“We have developed additional safe working procedures to protect our tenants, tradespeople and staff in accordance with updated Scottish Government guidance and legislation. We also moved quickly to ensure additional cleaning services were provided at all our sheltered and retirement housing developments to help protect our tenants from Covid-19. We recognise the current lockdown situation is incredibly difficult for our tenants and staff, and we appreciate their support and cooperation.”
