Teenager admits assault

Background reports have been ordered on an Ardgay teenager who assaulted another man so badly that his jaw was broken.

Nineteen-year-old Gavin Maclean, 11 Manse Road, appeared at Dornoch Sheriff Court on Monday to admit attacking Lewis Andrew to his severe injury.

The incident happened on 12th February at the Stag’s Head Hotel, Golspie.

Manson originally appeared in private on petition in relation to the case.

Fiscal Roderick Urquhart told Monday’s court: "The victim suffered a bilateral fracture of his jaw and had to have titanium plates inserted in order to repair the damage.

"The prognosis is that he should have a satisfactory bite and that the numbness he experienced in his lip and chin should resolve in time."

The fiscal asked if, given the nature of the injury suffered, background reports were required.

Sheriff James Gilchrist agreed and deferred sentencing until 29th November for the preparation of social enquiry reports.

The sheriff told Maclean: "This is clearly a serious matter and the court requires a background report."

Also in the dock alongside Maclean was 20-year-old Lyle Mackay, 23 Academy Street, Tain, who admitted breaking the peace by fighting outside the Stag’s Hotel on the same date.

Sheriff Gilchrist also deferred sentence on Mackay until 29th November.
