Tain Royal Academy on the hunt for new headteacher





AN Easter Ross secondary school is on the hunt for a new headteacher.

The key Tain Royal Academy role has been advertised by Highland Council with a salary of £84,936 for what is described as a 35 hours per week position.

A list of attributes required of the successful candidate include the ability “to articulate a vision and give direction to the school, creating a climate that will translate this vision into everyday reality”.

The school, which serves a wide swathe of Easter Ross, is set to move to new premises after many years within buildings widely described as no longer fit for purpose.

Would-be applicants are told: “Highland Council is responsible in total for 184 primary schools, 29 secondary schools and three special education schools.

“All schools are co-educational and, within the secondary sector, non-denominational.”

In terms of the local area, they are informed: “The Royal Burgh of Tain is located in Easter Ross, which is an area of outstanding natural beauty with an excellent environment and rich heritage.

“People in the area enjoy easy access to a wide range of leisure pursuits including fishing, golf, sailing and walking.

“There are good road and rail links to Inverness and beyond. Inverness Airport, which provides an increasing range of services to destinations in the UK and Europe, is very accessible.”

The new school, replacing current building, is under construction and will be soon completed, prospective applicants are told.

It will provide education for secondary pupils in Tain, sharing the building with St Duthus Special School and the combined two primary schools of Craighill and Knockbreck.

The expected roll will be approximately 530 in Tain Royal Academy, sharing the building with approximately 375 pupils in primary and 25 in early learning and childcare.

In order to prepare for the opening, the management teams in the schools will regularly meet in preparation for the new building being completed.

The new headteacher of Tain Royal Academy “will be expected to take up post as soon as possible”.

The job particulars state: “Tain Royal Academy is supported by an active and supportive parent council.

“This is an exciting post to form a new school community with excellent facilities, with an ambitious team focussing on high quality learning and teaching.”

The senior management team listed at the school at present comprises Mrs Connie Farrell (acting interim rector), Mrs Catherine Brown (depute rector) and Mr Ross Waldie (depute rector).
