A Tain man who is currently serving a 22-month jail sentence for a knifepoint robbery in Easter Ross was jailed for 10 months at Inverness Sheriff Court after admitting road traffic offences on the Black Isle.

Sheriff Gary Aitken was told by defence solicitor Rory Gowans that 44-year-old Daniel MacLean of Mansfield Estate had an earliest release in April next year, so it is unlikely his new sentence will affect that date.

MacLean admitted driving while disqualified on August 15 in North Kessock with 2.5mcgs of cannabis in his system, when the legal limit is 2mcgs.

Mr Gowans told the court that his client wanted all his outstanding cases dealt with while he was incarcerated.

The lawyer added: "He told police officers that he had just bought the car. But he had no business driving it."

The sheriff also banned MacLean from driving for 21 months.
