Lord-Lieutenant for Ross, Cromarty, Skye and Lochalsh, Joanie Whiteford, has been given the honour by Tain Highland Gathering.
The Gathering is held at Glenmorangie Ground, on the A9, just north of Tain, on Sunday, August 11 and features events ranging from Highland Dancing, piping, track and field to cycling and the heavies.

A chieftain acts as the ceremonial face of the occasion and is typically on hand to welcome important guests and to present the prizes to those who have been successful in competitions.
The committee for what will be the 29th Gathering voiced delight at announcing the honorary chieftain role for Mrs Whiteford who, as Lord-Lieutenant, works to uphold the dignity of the Crown in the area, serving as the eyes and ears of the Royal Family.
She was appointed Lord-Lieutenant in 2019 and is supported in that role by a clerk and assistant clerk who are employed by Highland Council, a vice lord-lieutenant and eight deputies across the area.
The lieutenancy also plays a role in championing charitable and social causes by supporting events, promoting honours and awards and shining a light on volunteers and volunteer groups who work for the benefit of their communities
Mrs Whiteford, who lives in the Easter Ross area, said she is very much looking forward to her role as chieftain.
Tain Highland Gathering is sponsored by Glenmorangie. Local events start at 11am with open events from 2pm.
