Tain group seeks new cat fosterers and admin support
Cats Protection Tain and District is hoping to recruit indoor fosterers to care for unwanted and abandoned cats while they wait to find a new owner.
Cat fostering is hands-on cat welfare work looking after felines on a short-term basis in a spare room (with no soft furnishings) in the fosterer’s home.
The branch, which is run entirely by volunteers, needs people who can offer a temporary home to one or more cats whilst they get back on their paws.
“Cat fosterers play a vital role in our charity by caring for cats in their own home until a new owner can be found,” Jean Jardine, branch coordinator and fosterer, said.
“No special equipment is needed, as the charity will provide everything that you need, but cat fosterers do need to have a spare room and, of course, a love of cats is a must. The charity will provide plenty of assistance and support materials for all fosterers.
“Offering a temporary home to a cat in need can be an incredibly rewarding experience, and becoming a volunteer for Cats Protection is a great way to meet new friends – both human and feline!”
Due to a recent retirement, the branch is also in need of a new administration team leader (previously called “secretary”) to be responsible for tasks such as drafting committee meeting agendas, taking and sharing meeting minutes, and ensuring administration processes are carried out effectively.
Cats Protection is the UK’s leading feline welfare charity and Cats Protection Tain and District is part of the charity’s nationwide network of volunteer-run branches and centres that helped 191,000 cats and kittens in 2024. That’s the equivalent of helping around 525 cats a day.
As well as finding new homes for unwanted and abandoned cats, the charity also offers cat care advice to the public and can help towards the cost of neutering.
