WHAT is claimed to be the first book and arts festival of its kind to be held on the Easter Ross peninsula will take place in and around Tain next month, it was confirmed this week.

Organisers of the five-day event promise something for everyone, bringing together events for book, art and heritage lovers in one neat package from its launch on September 23 until its close on September 27.

St Duthac Book and Arts Festival takes its name from the patron saint of Tain – St Duthac.

Organisers said: “We wanted to shine a light on Scotland’s oldest Royal Burgh, Tain and the surrounding communities to celebrate our unique heritage as well as our contemporary artists and authors.

“In addition to many published local authors, we are delighted to reveal that Scottish broadcaster and writer Sally Magnusson and medieval historian Dr Tom Turpie will be a part of the first festival.”

They say the Easter Ross peninsula, with its spectacular beaches, trails and attractions, is a haven for explorers and that “the planned programme of events will take you on a journey across the peninsula, allowing you to immerse yourself in the written and spoken word through author events, workshops, arts and heritage trails, and a pop-up book shop with gallery in the centre of Tain”.

Anyone wanting to find out more can do so at the event’s St Duthac Book and Arts Festival website – found at www.stduthacbookfest.com – which has programme and ticket information.
