A Sutherland Scottish Women's Institute has closed after 102 years.

Ardgay and Culrain SWI was left with just five members and felt it was "impossible to continue".

However, the final group will continue to support each other as friends and have handed over historic records of the SWI in the hope that it will be revived in the future.

"It is with a heavy heart that we have to report that the Ardgay and Culrain SWI has come to an end. With just five remaining members it is impossible to continue," said treasurer Gillian Glennie.

"We are proud that we achieved an unbroken centenary in 2018, we still have in our possession the very first minute book and almost all the following ones to date.

"These will be held by the SWI movement in future and returned should the Ardgay and Culrain SWI be revived in the future. We would like to thank those members of the public who supported our many fundraising activities over the years.

"Our remaining members had dinner together at the Trentham Inn... and all agreed we shall miss being members, however it doesn't mean we wont keep in touch with each other.

"Members are friends for life and support each other.

"Finally our lasting tribute to the community is the Millennium Quilt that most members of the then two separate institutes – many of whom have departed this life – contributed to, as it hangs proudly in the foyer in Migdale Hospital."
