Community transport scheme for Lairg to be set up after delivery of new car
SRI has previously delivered cars to Brora, Bettyhill, and Lairg, where they will be used in community transport schemes run by Brora Community Enterprises, Farr North Community Development Trust, and Lairg Community Association.
Cllr Gale said: “I am delighted to hand over the fourth vehicle to the Scourie community.
“This marks the roll out of the first phase of the Sutherland Resilience Initiative as we attempt to address some of the drivers of depopulation in Sutherland.
“We will now look at further actions that we can take, and we hope to report on future progress in the new year.
“In the meantime these vehicles will help many people across the county to access vital services from health to education that have previously been very difficult to access.”
SRI was registered with Companies House in January, and its directors are the six councillors who represent Sutherland. on Highland Council.
SRI successfully applied for a £102,000 grant from the Coastal Communities fund to help cover the cost of the electric cars.
