A choral group in Sutherland are back in tune after a two year absence.

Golspie Choral Group held their first concert since 2020 on May 6, raising funds for several local charities.

Choir members were delighted to be back singing following a long hiatus due to the pandemic. They were even more delighted to be able to do so by holding a concert in Fountain Road Hall.

With the hall at full capacity, a very appreciative audience were presented with performances of a variety of musical pieces from various genres.

Singing was interspersed with poems by choir members, accompanied by clarsach, violin and piano playing from the extremely talented Isla and Lucy Robertson from Dornoch.

The choir was directed by Roddy Mclean and was accompanied on the piano by Mairi Mackenzie.

Choir member Cecilia Miller said: "We really missed singing over the past two years so it is great to be back enjoying singing altogether as a choir."

Proceeds from donations at the door were distributed to the following local charities;

The Young Carers East Sutherland £100.00

East Sutherland Rescue Association £100.00

Caithness and Sutherland Woman's Aid £100.00

Golspie High school music prize £50.00

Rehearsals for this year's Christmas concert are scheduled to begin on Thursday September 22 at 7.30pm in Fountain Road Hall. New members are most welcome.
