MOTORISTS have been urged to use caution crossing Highland bridges as Sutherland and the north braces itself for the arrival of Storm Brendan and Met Office weather warnings for strong gales.
CalMac ferry services are also badly hit, with the Ullapool-Stornoway route all but completely cancelled on Monday. The 7am departure from Stornoway departed on time but all subsequent sailings between the two towns were cancelled on Monday.
The ferry operator was also warning that there would be a review later today as to whether Tuesday’s 7am sailing from Stornoway would be sailing or not.
Traffic Scotland, meanwhile has urged drivers to take care on exposed routes adding: “Road users are advised to use caution crossing the A87 Skye Bridge due to high winds currently affecting driving conditions”.
The Met Office weather warning for strong winds comes today will run through until midnight.
A spokesman for the Met Office said: “A widely very windy period is expected Monday with some disruption to travel likely.
“Coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities (will be) affected by spray and/or large waves.”
They added that people should expect “some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport… particularly for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges.”
