The challenge is operated nationally by independent charity the Reading Agent and this year it partnered with Science Museum Group to launch “Gadgeteers”, a science and innovation themed challenge to spark children’s curiosity about the world around them.

A total of 1,032 children took part in Highland across 47 libraries, reading 5,260 books overall. Medals and certificates were presented recently to those who completed the challenge.

Head of libraries in Highland Julie Corcoran said it was an “amazing achievement”.

John West, High Life Highland’s head of culture and learning said: “It is great to have seen so many children and young people across the Highlands enjoying this year’s summer reading challenge. This initiative gives everyone another reason to visit their local library to participate in an event at no cost, and at a time when free events are becoming increasingly important to families within our communities.”
