Highland motorists urged to keep vehicles secure after suspicious incidents in Inverness and Tain, Easter Ross
Police have urged the public to make sure they keep their vehicles and properties locked following suspicious incidents.
Officers raised the alarm after “receiving reports of a person trying car doors” in the Kinmylies area of Inverness.
The force’s advice was also issued on the same day that residents in Tain took to a community Facebook page to report similar suspicious behaviour in the Easter Ross town’s Craighill Terrace area.
Commenting on the earlier Inverness incident, a police spokesperson said: “We've received reports of a person trying car doors in the Kinmylies area of Inverness. Enquiries are ongoing, but we'd like to take the time to give some security advice, especially as the weather starts turning colder.
“Never leave your vehicle unlocked and unattended, no matter how long you are away from it for. It's just not worth the risk!
“Keep valuables out of sight, or even better out the vehicle altogether.
“If de-icing your windscreen, do not leave the engine running and go back in the house.
“Keep your car keys away from the front door.
“We will continue to conduct high visibility reassurance/deterrence patrols in the area when we can.”
