A NEW street in Dornoch is to be named after a popular, local primary school teacher.

One of the new roads in phase two of the Springfield Properties housing development at Dornoch North is to be called Sorley Avenue in honour of Isobel Sorley, who died in 2019.

The street is at Springfield Properties new development at Dornoch.

Dornoch Area community councillors approved the name at their online meeting last week.

Treasurer Jerry Bishop said: "I think it is a lovely idea and the fact it (the suggestion) has come from the school makes it just perfect for me."

Developers have previously named a street at the housing scheme Allan Gardens in honour of former councillor Duncan Allan, who lives in the town.

Mr Allan has previously called for more trees to be planted at new housing projects.
