A journey to another country is lived at its best when we engage all our senses: admiring the stunning landscapes, enjoying the sensation of sand, woodland or stones on our hands, listening to the different sounds of a new language and traditional music, breathing in the air and smells characteristic to a place. Most importantly, an immersion in another country’s culture is not complete without experiencing the flavours of local cuisine.
Scotland is famous all over the world for some unique dishes and produce: from the famous haggis to the incredible seafood sourced on our doorstep, to the delicious venison and luscious desserts such as cranachan.
But if there is one thing that comes to mind when thinking of Scotland, it is Scotch whisky.
The national drink is not only appreciated around the world for its exceptional taste: whisky is a vessel of stories, a link between traditions and innovation. Most importantly, it brings people together.
To celebrate the fascinating Scottish heritage, The Seaforth Restaurant in Ullapool will launch a brand new, immersive experience this summer.
Running every Wednesday from August 14, Taste of Scotland at the Seaforth will showcase some of the best flavours, sounds and stories the country has to offer in one, exciting evening.
The event will see a whisky tasting led by the Seaforth’s Master of Whisky, Tony Hercus, whose storytelling sessions will transport you through time, exploring the rich tapestry of Scottish history and culture.
Three different whiskies will be paired with Traditional Scottish Dishes such as haggis, neeps and tatties, freshly caught mussels or a tasty venison pie.
Mr Hercus said: “It is my fervent belief that there is a whisky for everyone's palate. Or Scotch Single Malt Whisky, arguably, is the best drink in the world.
“My hope is that after an evening at Seaforth 'Scottish night’ people will be up for trying more of Scotland’s finest. The malt whiskies have been chosen to enhance the diners’ experience of our Scottish Evening.”
The night will be accompanied by live accordion Music by local legend, Ruairidh Kelly, filling the air with lively Scottish tunes and participants will be able to enjoy an interactive evening with traditional games and the opportunity to don a kilt, feeling every inch the Highlander.
David Kennedy, Bar Manager at the Seaforth, added: "We created this series of events to show people the rich and diverse culture Scotland offers, from our delectable whisky to our vibrant heritage. These events will unite people in a way only the Scots know-how with good craic and good food."
Taste of Scotland at the Seaforth will run every Wednesday starting August 14th, from 7pm to 10pm until September 18.
