ScotRail has launched an investigation into a disruption on Monday, which forced hundreds of southbound passengers to evacuate their train at Aviemore.

A spokesman said: “The 10.50 Inverness to Edinburgh service terminated at Aviemore due to a staff error which is now under investigation.”

He explained: “When an incident like this occurs, it’s industry procedure to investigate immediately and as such the train was terminated.

“The customers on board continued their journey on the next Inverness to Edinburgh service.
