Stac Pollaidh hike makes it onto retailer's top 15 in UK

A CHALLENGING hike in Sutherland has been named as one of the top 15 Best UK Hikes to help get you fit this summer.

Retailer Military Direct, which sells outdoor military gear and equipment, has researched and put together a list of top hikes to get people fit in 2021.

And coming in at number 14 is the ridge and circuit trail around Stac Pollaidh, one of the best known mountains in north west Sutherland.

The walk has stunning views over Assynt to the north and the Summer Isles and Achiltibuie to the south and west.

According to Military Direct, the Stac Pollaidh trail reaches an elevation of 612m, is between 3.5-5.7km and can take up to three hours to complete.

Military direct managing director Ben Slater said: “The list that we’ve put together is scaled so that anyone can jump in.”

Taking the top spot for the most challenging hike is Pen Y Fan, the picturesque Welsh peak nestled within the Brecon Beacons, North Wales.
