A sheriff has ordered a personal appearance by a driver whose speed he described as 'ludicrous'.

Sean Gunn was clocked by police at 95 mph on a remote section of the A9 near Loch Rangag, near Latheron, on April 23.

The 24-year-old pleaded guilty by letter at Wick Sheriff Court, on Wednesday, to exceeding the 60 mph speed limit.

Sheriff Andrew Berry was told that officers offered Gunn a fixed penalty fine but he declined it.

The accused, a first offender, of Castle Terrace, Thurso, will be sentenced on September 15.
