COULD one of TV’s biggest shows be heading to the Highlands?

Stories have emerged that ITV executives are scouting Scotland as they search for a venue for the next series of I’m a Celebrity... Get me Out of Here.

Ever since it began in 2002, the hit show has been filmed in the Australian outback at Dungay Creek, New South Wales, and is hosted by Geordie duo Ant and Dec. It sees famous faces from the world of TV, music and sport vie to be king/queen of the jungle.

But due to the pandemic, producers may have to look closer to home this year.

The most desirable location is said to be rural, with access to a luxury hotel for presenters and contestants once they leave the show.

A source close to the show said: “Everyone hopes to get back to Australia but over there they are struggling massively with flare-ups resulting in second lockdowns. It simply may not be possible because of safety.

“A decision needs to be made next month – in the meantime, the team is looking at stately homes, castles, mansions in remote areas of Scotland and England to see if we could stage it here.”

The source claimed that the I’m a Celeb producers were considering the possibility of a “dark, cold and spooky version of the show”.

With TV stars such as Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Madeley and Strictly Come Dancing professional AJ Pritchard being touted as contestants, Rangers legend Ally McCoist said that he also wants a stint on a Scots I’m a Celeb to help him lose weight.

The contestants could be swapping Australian waterfall showers in the bush – for thermal undies, midgies and dips in freezing lochs.

Paddy Power has listed Scotland as the most likely British site.
