The grants aim to "support small-scale improvements to promote and enhance places while helping motivate people to shop, eat and relax in their community".

Durness based environmental group Plastic@Bay has been awarded £1630 to promote its online local craft business through print and web advertising.

The group has also received a separate £2000 award to undertake beach cleans and recycle plastics into skipping ropes.

Dornoch Area Community Interest Company (DACIC) is being given £4950 to update an app to include local walks, tours, and virtual experience events.

On the north coast, managers of Skerray Village Hall are to receive £15,500 towards an upgrade and refurbishment of the hall which will include installing double glazing and improving toilets.

A grant has also been made to Lochbroom Community Council which will use the £4500 to upgrade a derelict play park.

Venture North has been granted £5000 to run a winter campaign including videos, to promote shopping locally.

A co-operative organisation, Venture North brings together tourism businesses from the private and voluntary sector across Caithness and Sutherland.

Scotland's Communities Secretary Aileen Campbell said: "I am pleased to see our £1 million Scotland loves Local Fund has reached hundreds of community projects across the county.

"This is a unique chance for our local communities to improve towns and promote them as better places to live.

"The fund will empower communities by supporting local delivery of projects, to help our towns to recover from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic."

The fund is being administered by Scotland's Towns Partnership as part of its work to spearhead the Scotland Loves Local campaign, encouraging people to think local.
