A SIGNALLING fault in Inverness has brought trains to a standstill in and out of the Highland capital.

Some services heading to or from Inverness on the Far North, Kyle, Aberdeen and Highland Mainline have been suspended following the fault – with disruption expected to last until at least midday. In the meantime services on the Highland mainline are starting or terminating in Aviemore, while on the Far North and Kyle lines, trains are stopping at Muir of Ord. Some services are also being cancelled entirely.

Confirming the fault, a ScotRail spokesperson said: "We have received reports of a signal fault in the Inverness station area.

"Our services are unable to operate to/from Inverness until staff have rectified the fault. Staff are on site investigating the fault and we will let you know once we have more information.

"Train services running to and from this station will be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected to last until around midday today."
