Tribute has been paid to a popular member of staff at Voluntary Groups Sutherland, who sadly passed away on Monday.
VGS chairman Ian Ross spoke of his shock at the death of 65-year-old Liz Barron, a long time employee with the organisation.
In an email to VGS supporters, he wrote: “We are all shocked by the loss of Liz. She was the ‘face’ of Voluntary Groups and very much dedicated to supporting and guiding the wider voluntary sector across Sutherland.
"Liz worked with Voluntary Groups for over three decades as it grew and developed and was ever present to provide advice and a guiding hand.
“She was always friendly and never fazed by any request and invariably able to come up with a positive suggestion and solution to almost any problem.
“Crucially she was a friend to all of us at VGS and we feel a sense of great loss – our thoughts and sympathy are very much with her family at this very difficult time.”
A Golspie resident, who did not want to be named, said Mrs Barron was “one in a million” and would go out of her way to help others.
“It is a huge loss to Voluntary Groups Sutherland,” she said.
It is understood mother-of-two Mrs Barron, who recently celebrated the birth of her first grandchild, was recovering from an operation when she took ill at her home.
She is survived by her husband Neil, son George and daughter Claire.
