Careless delivery driver on A9 in Easter Ross committed offence in view of off-duty police officer, court hears
A delivery driver was banned from driving for 15 weeks at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday after a careless overtake in the face of a vehicle being driven by an off-duty policeman.
Blair Mackay of Bruce Gardens, Inverness, admitted the offence which was committed on the A9 near Rosskeen outside Alness on January 19, 2020.
Fiscal depute David Morton said: "Two vehicles, one driven by a police officer who had a dash-cam, were coming round a sweeping bend when the overtake was begun.
"There was not sufficient space for Mackay to complete the manoeuvre and the other vehicles had to take evasive action."
Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald, who also fined Mackay £580, said: "This could have ended much worse.
"You have a previous conviction for careless driving and another road traffic offence.
"I regard this careless driving as at the higher end of the scale and a disqualification is necessary."
