ANOTHER 17 people have tested positive for the coronavirus across the NHS Highland area.

The region’s total number of confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic increased from 5315 to 5332 when the latest daily figures were released on Thursday. This marked the second day in a row in which 17 new cases were detected.

There were 835 further cases of Covid-19 across Scotland in the past 24 hours. This represented 2.8 per cent of all people tested in Scotland over that time period.

Some 110 people were receiving treatment for the virus inside Scottish hospitals last night – which was a fall of four from Wednesday’s update.

Of those, eight were in intensive care – down two.

Sadly a further four deaths have been recorded among people who previously tested positive.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new cases in NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar, but NHS Shetland detected one fresh infection – its first since May 18.

Twenty-two new positive tests were recorded in NHS Grampian, for a running total of 15,519.

And NHS Tayside’s cumulative tally increased by 93, to 15,394.

Some 237,901 confirmed cases of Covid-19 have been registered across Scotland since the pandemic began last year.

More than 3.3 million adults in Scotland have now received their first Covid vaccination jag, while almost 2.14 million have received their second one.
