Sentence has again been deferred on a man after his case was initially delayed due to the coronavirus lockdown.

Inverness Sheriff Court had previously heard how 67-year-old John Wylie of Lochalsh Road, Inverness, held his victim down and placed his arm on her neck to restrict her breathing while he put his hand up her skirt.

The woman managed to bite his arm to stop the attack and reported it to police the following day.

Fiscal depute Robert Weir said: “She said she tried to scream but couldn’t due to his arm on her neck.”

Wylie pleaded guilty to the offence, which was committed on July 3, 2018, and sentence was deferred until April 2 this year for a background report.

This process was disrupted, however, by the Covid pandemic.

An up-to-date report was called for when he appeared in court again last week and Wylie will now reappear on August 26.

He has already been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register.
