The East Sutherland Rotary Club’s annual Coast to Coast Car Tour took place on Saturday May 21 with sixty cars taking part to raise funds for charity.

Car enthusiasts were blessed with sunshine and magnificent scenery as they set off from Dornoch Castle, taking to the road after Lord Lieutenant Dr Monica Main, supervised by Major General Patrick Marriott, fired the cannon to stimulate action on the starting grid and if that did not work the stirring music from the pipers would have done the trick.

The event was sponsored by Park's Motor Group who supplied an F-type Jaguar for the weekend, to be driven by one lucky winner whose number was drawn on the day.

The tour drove to Altnaharra for coffee and made a lunch stop at Durness Village Hall before returning east via Laxford Bridge, Lairg.

The journey culminated in a visit to Dunrobin Castle, rounding off “a simply fabulous day” as participants enjoyed a refreshment by their hot engines and in the wonderful castle gardens.

Fundraising efforts in connection with the tour have so far raised over £10,000.

The East Sutherland Rotary Club actively supports the RNLI as part of the tour and intends to disperse funds to the local inshore rescue ESRA and the balance shall be dispersed to various charities locally.
