Work has begun on resurfacing a long stretch of road in Sutherland, with a diversion in place to avoid the area for through traffic.

The road from Bonar Bridge to The Mound via Strath Carnaig closed at 8pm on Monday. The closure is expected to remain in place until 6am on Thursday.

Highland Council says that temporary traffic management is in place and an alternative route for traffic is available via the A836, A839, A9 and A949.

Emergency vehicle and local access to premises will be maintained at all times.

RJ McLeod is the contractor undertaking the road surface repairs.
