A lone sailor was rescued after his yacht broke down off the Sutherland coast today.

An RNLI Lochinver spokesperson confirmed the lifeboat was launched at 1.40pm to go to the aid of the stricken vessel.

They said the yacht had earlier radioed for help south of Handa Island after suffering engine problems and that the lifeboat towed the vessel into Lochinver for repairs.
