Riders for Charity visit RNLI Lochinver as part of NC500 lifeboat station tour
A number of motorbikers visited Lochinver RNLI station as part of a fundraising “adventure” and to mark the 200th anniversary of the RNLI this year.
ROC - Riders of Charity are stopping at every lifeboat station along the North Coast 500 tourist route during a week-long excursion from July 27 to August 2 to raise money for the RNLI, Alzheimer’s Society and Mental Health Motorbike.
ROC was set up in early 2020 by Victor David, who was determined to raise money to help tackle Alzheimer’s disease after losing his mother to the disease the previous year.
Some 20 bikers took part in ROC’s first ride from Land’End to John O’Groats in 2021. The group’s second fundraising ride in 2022 saw the bikers ride Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way and last year they undertook weekend ride-outs in Cornwall, the Brecon Beacons and Yorkshire.
Victor David said: “Since our first ride in 2021 we have raised £21,231. We are currently standing at £2,673 for this year’s campaign.”
The bikers had hoped to meet some of the Lochinver RNLI crew members but they were unable to be at the station on the day the group visited.
