Queen's message of thanks to Brora
THE Queen has responded to the good wishes sent to her on her Diamond Jubilee by an East Sutherland community.
Her Majesty sent a personal message to the Brora Community Fete Committee, which has been specially set up to mark her 60th anniversary.
The group wrote to the Queen on 29th January expressing their loyalty and support.
The message was sent with a special letterhead, designed by Brora Primary School children and depicting the village’s War Memorial Clock.
The Queen was told that the village intended marking her milestone anniversary on 2nd June by holding a fete which, it was hoped would become an annual event.
Fete committee chairman Alistair Risk, revealed today (Thursday) that he had received a reply from Her Majesty.
The reply came on a card containing photographs of the Queen during her six decades on the Throne.
It states: "I send you my grateful thanks for the words of loyalty and support which you have so kindly sent on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of my accession to the throne."
Mr Risk also received a letter from Buckingham Palace’s senior correspondence officer Sonia Bonici.
She writes: "The Queen has asked me to thank you for your letter of 29th January, telling Her Majesty about the celebrations planned by the residents of the village of Brora and their famili9es and friends for 2nd June, to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
"The obvious enthusiasm with which the Brora Community Fete Group and the villagers of Brora are embracing this special Royal occasion is most touching and it was very kind of you to write and let Her Majesty know of Brora’s special gathering and their plans for this to become an annual community fete."
