Public conveniences at Dornoch closed after devastating vandal attack
Highland Council has closed the public toilets at Dornoch following a vandal attack on the facility last night.
A spokesperson for the authority said toilet roll holders were broken and removed from the wall, and toilet paper was scattered across the floor in the gent’s section of the toilet block.
Attempts were made to set a toilet seat on fire, and sinks, toilets, and floor drains were blocked. Taps were left on to flood the building, and graffiti was sprayed on the walls.
The spokesperson said: “As a service, we are so disappointed with the way this facility has been treated.
“As with other sites where vandalism is an ongoing issue, we have instructed an immediate closure. We will not reopen these facilities for at least a month to see if things settle down.
“We cannot continue to repair them until we are satisfied that the daily threat of vandalism is reduced.”

East Sutherland and Edderton ward councillor Jim McGillivray has offered a £100 reward for information leading to the identification of the vandals.
He said the reward money could rise if others join in.
Cllr McGillivray said: “I am extremely angry and frustrated by the pointless vandalism of Dornoch’s public toilets by some mindless, inadequate people.
“We have prided ourselves in recent years that we have evaded the attention of such pathetic morons, but it seems we must repair the damage and resume our vigilance.”
