HIGHLAND Council planners are set to consider a move to build 250 homes on the edge of a Ross-shire town.

Cairngorm Properties is seeking approval and guidance from officials to draw up a fuller proposal for a mixed residential, commercial and community use development in Tain.

If built, the development on land at Knockbreck Farm and Burgage Farm, by Knockbreck Road, would represent significant growth in the town’s population of 3600.

The developers have so far only lodged a proposal of application notice (PAN) that sets out in bare detail what is proposed within the 18.2 hectare site.

It is described as “a mixed use development of up to 250 residential units, community uses, business and tourism uses, open space and ancillary infrastructure”.

The council will respond within 21 days of receiving the notice and advise whether the proposed pre-application consultation is satisfactory or if additional notification and consultation is required.

According to the papers, any planning application for the proposed development cannot be submitted less than 12 weeks from the date the proposal of application notice is received by the council.

It also cannot be submitted without the statutory consultation requirements having been undertaken and the planning application must be accompanied by a pre-application consultation report.

The PAN has a determination deadline of July 12.

A full planning application has yet to be submitted.
