These are Farr, Melvich, Altnaharra and Kinbrace P4-7 pupils on a photographic expedition to Strathnaver Hatchery and Achanlochy, near Skelpick.

The visit was led by Paul Castle, Countryside Ranger for North Sutherland and North Caithness.

The expedition was organised as part of the Alan Joyce Young Environmentalist competition (supported by Awards for All, SNH and Highland Council Countryside Rangers) and promoted by Strathnaver Museum.

The photographic competition is in honour of the memory of the late Alan Joyce, charismatic former biology teacher at Golspie and Farr schools, who had a special interest in freshwater biology. It is designed to encourage an awareness of and interest in these particular habitats in young people.

The project will continue over the next few months and the winning photographs will form an exhibition which will visit museums, schools and halls across Sutherland.
