Police warn retailers after Golspie scam

Payment fraud
Payment fraud

NORTHERN Constabulary are advising retailers to be on their guard today after a shop in Golspie, which uses the "UKASH" prepayment collection network (worked over a phone line), was the victim of a fraud.

A telephone caller to the shop line purported to be a friend of the owner and befriended / reassured the staff member.

The caller then went on to persuade the shop assistant to generate two paypoint vouchers to the value of £250 each and pass the unique voucher numbers. When the shop assistant tried to take payment for the vouchers the caller hung up and by that time had appropriated the money without payment. These codes can be then used immediately on internet sites.

Anyone with any information or knowledge of this 'scam' is asked to contact Northern Constabulary on 01463 715555.
