Police Scotland cracked down on drink and drug drivers in Highlands in the run-up to Christmas

POLICE stopped two alleged drink-drivers and eight alleged drug-drivers last week as part of a concerted Christmas clampdown.

Highland and Islands police officers were undertaking the patrols as part of the festive drink/drug-drive campaign under Operation Cedar.

During this week, officers arrested two alleged drink-drivers – a 23-year-old man in Orkney and a 30-year-old woman in Shetland.

The eight alleged drug-drivers included a 20-year-old man in Invergordon, a 19-year-old woman at Tore, four men aged 32, 30, 21 and 26 in Inverness, a 25-year-old man in Ullapool and a 26-year-old woman in Fort William.

Two men aged 18 and 19 who were stopped while driving tractors on the A9 at Arpafeelie. They were charged with careless driving and construction and use offences.

Inspector Donnie Mackinnon, of the road policing unit, said: “I would like to reassure the public that we are continuing to carry out patrols across the Highlands and Islands and will robustly enforce the law.”
