Police detect list of NC500 motoring offences
Highland and Islands road policing officers have been on the north coast in Caithness and Sutherland carrying out patrols as part of Operation Cedar between the 13th and 15th of August 2021. They have focused on the roads that form part of the North Coast 500 following concerns expressed by local residents/businesses and associated groups.
Officers stopped and checked over 72 vehicles with 32 detected offences. These included careless driving, speeding in built up and rural areas, a child not being appropriately restrained, MOT/insurance offences, using hand held mobile device when driving, drug driving and drug possession.
Road policing Constable Kenneth Macleod said “These proactive trips highlight our commitment to improving road safety across the Highlands and Islands. We hope that we have reassured this community that we are responding to their concerns while aiming at improving road safety throughout the Highlands and Islands.
“Disappointingly a number of offences were detected which included two cases of drug driving. Blood was taken from these persons and will be sent away for analysis. Should they be over the drug drive limit a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
