Plans have been lodged for an escape rooms business in Aviemore with the applicants saying it will create a much needed all-weather attraction.

Peter Sturrock, of Escape Aviemore Limited, has submitted the proposed change of use for premises on Dalfaber Industrial Estate with Highland Council's planning service in Kingussie.

Escape Aviemore Limited is proposing to lease the unit located within the Spey Valley Business Centre.

The premises have most recently traded as a hot tub showroom facility.

Escape Aviemore Ltd said in their support statement: "Escape Rooms are the newest craze sweeping the UK with facilities opening and developing countrywide.

"An escape room, also known as an escape game, is a game in which a team of players cooperatively discover clues, solve puzzles, and accomplish tasks in one or more rooms in order to progress and accomplish a specific goal in a limited amount of time.

"The goal is often to escape from the site of the game.

"Every game has an immersive theme which will change on a regular basis to give customers different and developing challenges."

The company has said the new addition would provide indoor entertainment in the Aviemore area.

Planning agents Kirkcaldy based Davidson Baxter Partnership Ltd said in the application: "Activities around Aviemore are predominantly focussed on outdoor activities and there is a need for activities people can enjoy when the weather is inclement.

"Escape rooms are becoming increasing popular, particularly within tourist destinations such as Barcelona and Budapest.

"With Aviemore hosting over one million visits per annum there is the opportunity to provide an escape game to compliment other activities."

It is proposed that the facility would operate between the 10am and 10:00pm on a daily basis with groups of approximately six friends or family participating in each of the three escape rooms

Escape Aviemore Ltd has said the operation will create much needed employment for local residents all year round and offer a further tourist attraction for Aviemore.
