PICTURES: Thought-provoking poetry written by Highland women in Workers’ Educational Association project displayed at Eastgate Shopping Centre in Inverness
Poetry aiming to make people stop, think and question is being displayed in an exhibition at the Eastgate Shopping Centre in Inverness.
The centre’s community gallery is currently exhibiting 25 poems submitted to the Poetry in Public Places project by Women in the Highlands (WITH).
WITH, part of the Workers’ Educational Association, works with women to help remove barriers caused by rural isolation, poverty and inequality.
Through courses, meetings and events, it encourages women to become connected and empowered, and to discuss ideas and think about what matters to them.
The idea of the exhibition stemmed from discussions in which members embraced the idea of poetry enriching public places such as museums, libraries and shopping centres.
It is also hoped the poetry display, which runs until August 31, will inspire other women to put pen to paper.
The next exhibition in the community gallery will be watercolour and ink townscape illustrations by Heather Afrin Art, an artist based in Inverness.
