PICTURES: Strathnaver Hall committee ‘delighted’ with turnout for first summer fete

Strathnaver Hall held their first ever summer fete last Saturday, with organisers “delighted” at the attendance.

Festivities kicked off at midday with entries in the baking and bonnet competition, with judges looking to assess summer decorated cakes, shortbread, scotch pancakes, scones and jam.

In the children’s category, animal themed cupcakes and decorated summer bonnets were also put to the test.

This was followed by races at 1pm, then a dog show at 2pm.

Dog owners turned out in good numbers, with prizes being awarded for Best Bitch, Best Dog, Best Trick, Best Young Handler and a special award “Dog That Looks Most Like Its Owner”!

A spokesperson for the event said: “It was a dreich start to the day, and we were glad the weather improved in time for the first visitors arriving, followed by more and more, we were surprised and delighted at how many people came along to support our wee day!

“Everyone from young to old enjoyed themselves with a mixture of activities on offer from Nerf wars, to archery, bouncy castles, market stalls, a well attended dog show to races and even a welly toss.

“Some people may have to work on their aim for next year!

“Everyone was kept well fed with Ardgay Game burgers and sausages being cooked on the barbecue.

“As a small committee we would like to thank everyone for all the help and support we recieve for our events, it is very much appreciated.”

Since forming at the end of last year, Strathnaver Hall committee have also held bingo nights, and a ceilidh which attracted a full house in June.

The group have plans to hold more events in the future, with information available via their Facebook page, Strathnaver Hall.
