Residents at a Tain care home have held their second Highland Games event.

The fun-loving folk at Innis Mhor care home tried their hand at a variety of sporting events including hammer throwing, welly tossing and hurling the haggis.

There was also entertainment from Highland dancers and a piper, as well as live music from local singers Carol and June as residents enjoyed a BBQ.

This year’s event was again officially opened by Ron Taylor, managing director of Parklands Care Homes.

And for one resident, the event brought back fond memories of past Highland Games.

Sandy Sutherland competed in his first Tain Highland Gathering in 1947 and took part in Highland Games events all over the world. To prove he hasn’t lost any of his skill, Sandy came first in the welly toss and third in the haggis hurling.

Jackie Macrae, manager of Innis Mhor care home said: “As ever, the residents really threw themselves into the action and had a great time.

“While last year’s event was held behind closed doors, we were delighted to welcome husbands and wives to this year’s Highland Games. It was so wonderful to see couples reunited and enjoying a fun time together.

“As always, we were inundated with support from the local community and I would like to thank everyone who made the event possible.”

Innis Mhor is a finalist in the ‘Best for Sporting, Social or Leisure Activities’ award at this year’s Care Home Awards, due to take place in September.
