Stallholders from as far afield as Australia took part in this month's North Coast Market held at Armadale Village Hall on Saturday.

Visiting the event for the first time were Fiona Dempster and Barry Smith, from Queensland, Australia. Barry works with metal, wood and paper and had a selection of handcrafted items on show, while Fiona is a calligraphic and book artist.

Commenting on how the market went, organiser Fiona Macfarlane said: "It was well attended throughout the day. We had 16 stallholders as well as teas and coffees which were a big success."

There was an excellent variety of stalls from home baking, jam, sausages, salami, and chocolates to knitted items and handcrafted Highland cows. The fresh fruit and veg stall was also popular.

Befriending Caithness were in attendance serving teas, coffees and home bakes along with a chat. Angie House, senior co-ordinator of Befriending Caithness, said: "We had a wonderful time at the market at Armadale on Saturday, it was full of all sorts of different stalls and so many interesting people to chat to.

"We were there as Befriending Caithness to serve refreshments and raise awareness of the work that we do in Caithness and Sutherland. We are very grateful to our volunteers who provided lots of home baking and their time. Everyone enjoyed it – the total amount we made was over £400."
