Two health and wellbeing days organised by the pupil council at Melvich Primary School and Early Learning Centre went down a treat.

The enterprising pupil council members lined up a host of activities after first asking their fellow students what they would like to see put in place.

Active schools coordinators Rhoda Kennedy and schools volunteer Caroline Watson helped with sporting activities including tennis, circuit training, ball skills, yoga and curling.

Pupils could also take part in an art lesson, music workshop, mindfulness sessions and science lined to health and wellbeing.

Depute head teacher Jane Mackintosh said a highlight was curling with the recent Olympic success of the British Curling team inspiring pupils.

A Fruity Friday snack time also proved hugely popular with children invited to make up their own fruit and vegetable salad from a range of produce on offer, provided with funds from the parent council.

Ms Mackintosh said the children were “engaged and enthused” by the initiative.
