HUNDREDS of people supported a Wester Ross sheepdog trial and auction at the weekend, raising over £16,000 for two Highland charities and honouring the lives of two much-loved locals.

The annual sheepdog trial at Inverbroom Farm traditionally raises money for charity. The main organisers are Scott and Marie Renwick, their son Farquhar Renwick and nephew Gavin Macdonald and wife Becca. Willie Matheson saved the day with his mobile barbecue. Farquhar Macrae, another nephew who works for United Auctions, stepped in as auctioneer.

Many others helped out erecting the tents and on the day.

One of the organsiers, Marie Renwick, said: “We had a great day. We had around 60 dogs competing and several hundred visitors came to see both the dogs and the auction and barbecue.

“We were very fortunate to be helped out by Willie Matheson who brought his mobile barbecue and tents and supplied everyone with food throughout the day. We always have a baking stall which is also very popular. There was a huge raffle with hampers, bottles and vouchers which were all donated.

“We had over 30 lots in the auction, ranging from fresh venison donated by local estates, days out stalking on estates and holiday lets in self-catering houses around the north.

“What was amazing was that we didn't ask anyone for anything, everybody was eager to donate to the fundraiser.

“To date we have raised over £16000 with still some more to come in, which will be split equally between The Highland Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support.”
